The New Year is bring new adventures! It has been awhile since I have taken a leap and come March I will be leaping to India. If you wonder, Why INDIA? It is because India is the home of Yoga. The history of yoga shows up in ancient texts and can be divided into four major periods. Pre-Classical Yoga dates back to 500 B.C.E. Overtime, Yoga masters started to travel west. This began around 1893 when Swami Vivekananda lectured at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago and in 1947 Indra Devi opened at studio in Hollywood. Today yoga is still refining itself in America. For many, years I have always take time to stay connected with my body through mindfulness meditation and a physical workout. It wasn’t until I moved to Colorado in 2009, that I learned more in depth about yoga and started to dig deep into the education of yoga. I have moved along the typical yogi path. 200hour teacher training-CHECK 300hour teacher training-CHECK End my day job to open Yoga Studio-CHECK Find patience in being a teacher VS stressing about making a yoga income-CHECK India-HERE I GO! Thankfully, I landed an opportunity at Metro Communications in my hometown Sullivan, IL. A day job that supports my love for yoga and my spontaneous adventure to travel. THE PLAN There has been lots of planning and narrowing down for the Pilgrimage to India. I have chosen two destination places I will travel to Kovalam Beach, Kerala to practice yoga and do daily panchkarma treatments in Southern India. This is India's ancient ayurvedic cleansing treatment that includes body massage, oil treatments, and herbal cleaning techniques. The treatments promote positive health, natural beauty, and promote a long life. SCORE! Hoping to find time to travel to a few temples and other beachers. The adventure flys me into New Dehli and a 6 hour train ride lands me into the foothills of the Himalayas in Northern India. Here I will be apart of Darren Mains Yoga retreat in Rishikesh. Here I will be taking classes with Darren Main and Jasper Trout. The Holy City, Rishikesh is often called, “The Yoga Capital of the World”. So, there will be plenty to and lots to learn! I will also get connected with Mother Miracle for Karma Yoga. Stay tuned for more details!!! |
